Neuromuscular Therapy
Neuromuscular massage therapy is a form of soft tissue massage that aims to alleviate chronic muscle and nervous system disorders and problems. It is mainly used to reduce and resolve pain or tension caused by trigger points, pain or tension caused by postural problems, and repetitive movement injuries. I incorporate this modality into both table massage and Thai Yoga Bodywork sessions.
Deep Tissue Massage Therapy
Deep tissue massages use firm pressure and slow movements to massage deep layers of muscle and fascia, which is the connective tissue that surrounds your muscles, tendons and ligaments. About 85% of my clients have a specific issue they are working on and prefer deep pressure.
Deep tissue massages may cause you a little discomfort or slight pain in the areas that are causing you trouble. Discomfort is normal with this type of massage therapy. Most clients say it's a “good hurt” where it's a little uncomfortable but feels good at the same time. Deep tissue massage should never be outright painful, it is important to let your therapist know if the pressure is painful or the technique is uncomfortable. "No pain, no gain" does not apply to massage, we are looking for the level of pressure that is right before that point, it is relative to each individual and it is important to communicate with your therapist if the pressure is too much. If you bruise easily or are currently taking blood thinners, please let your therapist know as bruising could occur.
Thai Yoga Bodywork
Thai Yoga Massage (Nuad Bo-rarn) – Originated in Thailand in the second millennia BC, Thai Yoga Massage is a form of bodywork that combines dynamic assisted stretching influenced by Yoga, and physical pressure along energy lines influenced by Chinese acupuncture and Ayurveda. A typical session consists of the client lying clothed on a cushioned floor mat and being guided by practitioner through a series of targeted stretches and compressions. Hands, thumbs, feet, and sometimes elbows are used to work energy lines of the body, and Yoga type stretching movements are provided in a rhythmic rocking manner to help the recipient release deep and superficial fascial and muscular tension and increase flexibility. More intense techniques like spinal twists and assisted backbends can be omitted for people with twisting or bending limitations in the spine.
I am honored to be a certified Thai Yoga Bodywork Practitioner taught by Michael Sitzer, a Thai Yoga instructor out of Asheville who trained for many years in Thailand and is definitely sharing his gifts of Thai Yoga Massage with the world.
